Opportunities

The QuSpin Lab is interested in hearing from motivated students and researchers who would like to work on quantum spintronics, quantum materials, van der Waals heterostructures, nanofabrication, and low-temperature quantum transport. We are currently building up the group and welcome inquiries from excellent candidates interested in Master’s projects, PhD positions, postdoctoral research, and fellowship applications.

Research areas

Possible projects are related to:

  • Exploring emergent quantum phenomena in graphene-based nanodevices.
  • Study of proximity-induced effects in graphene-based van der Waals heterostructures.
  • Addressing topological spin transport in hybrid devices, including superconductivity and magnetism.
  • Developement of quantum confinements in graphene-based spintronic devices.
  • Magnon generation and detection in 2D magnetic material.
  • Study of optical spin injection in 2D optospintronic devices.

Master’s projects

Motivated Master’s students with an interest in experimental condensed matter physics, quantum nanoscience, nanofabrication, or low-temperature measurements are welcome to contact us. Projects can involve device fabrication, data analysis, quantum transport measurements, or the development of new van der Waals heterostructure platforms.

PhD and postdoctoral positions

Specific openings will be advertised here when available. Candidates interested in future PhD or postdoctoral opportunities are welcome to get in touch in advance. We always keep an eye on motivated candidates!

Applicants with experience in the following areas are especially encouraged to contact us:

  • Two-dimensional materials and van der Waals heterostructures
  • Cleanroom nanofabrication (e.g. ebeam lithography)
  • Cryogenic transport measurements
  • Spintronics or quantum transport
  • Python-based data analysis and measurement automation

Fellowship applications

We are happy to discuss possible fellowship applications with strong postdoctoral candidates whose interests align with the research directions of the QuSpin Lab.

Potential fellowship routes include national and international schemes such as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, NWO funding opportunities (e.g. NWO Veni grant), and other personal fellowship programmes.

How to apply or inquire
